Atlanta Falcons Still Have An Opportunity To Pull Off Winning Season with Playoff Hopes

The Atlanta Falcons came into Sunday Night's game against the Kansas City Chiefs with a record of 1-1 after pulling off a phenomenal upset in Philly against the Eagles on the prior Monday night. The city was live and the Benz had no roof, you could feel the momentum building for another upset. Falcons came out in the opening drive marching down the field to open up the game with a 7-0 lead.

The Falcons defense also played phenomenal with safety Simmons pulling off an interception on Patrick Mahomes and fans knew they were in for another great game. However the Falcons would go on top at the half with a 14-13 lead only producing 3 points in the second half. The Falcons somehow managed to stay in the game however in the end falling short to the chiefs with a final score of 22-17 as the Chiefs held Cousins and company to almost a scoreless half.

Falcons

Many Falcons fans are feeling disgruntled with the no PI call on Kyle Pitts which would have gave the birds a shot to take the win if they would have gotten the call and the ball on the 1 yard line with a chance to seal the victory but that didn't hold up giving the ball back to the chiefs and Mahomes the chance to put the ball game away!

However looking back this game was lost due to coaching when the Falcons had multiple chances to take the lead if they would have kicked the field goal and trusted the defense to get the ball back and get another chance at getting 7 or 3 on the board on the next drive. I do like the aggressive play calling on behalf of coach Morrison but you can't play superior teams like the world champions Kansas City Chiefs and not capitalize when you have the chance. Trust and believe it will come back to bite you.

Before the season started, our analyst predicted the Falcons would start the season at 0-3 with the rough opening schedule but managed to escape the rapture of a winless opening season going 1-2. All in all these new Falcons really do look better than they did last year and with this style of play can manage to pull off a winning season with a trip to the playoffs if they make a few adjustments.

As we know Cousins' lack of mobility in the pocket wont change but his stance under center instead of the pistol is taking presence in dominant fashion. With targets like Kyle Pitts and Drake London these Falcons have a chance to possibly end the season with a 12-5 record looking at the remainder of the season as the schedule remains tough but not elite tough like it did in the opening part of the season.

The defense has great pass rushing and the secondary is full of trickery schemes to keep many of the league's offenses on their heels. I truly like what we are seeing with these new birds and look forward to seeing the Falcons come out on top by the end of the regular season schedule. Atlanta could use more production on its running game and with the injuries on the offensive line, they need to make big adjustments to protect the QB if they are going for a playoff run.

Next week the Saints come to town with a 2-1 record and this is a rivalry game for the Birds and you know Saints fans will be doing all they can to flood the Mercedes Benz Stadium to push their team to the hopes of victory. We will see what type of adjustments the Falcons make as they move into week 4 and many fans still feel it's time to put rookie QB Michael Penix Jr under center and give him a chance, which by looking at some of the other rookie QBs in the league we say let Penix develop. Don't throw your franchise future to the wolves just yet.
